Our Materials

   We at Dunca use two (2) kinds of materials to build our world class phone cases. The materials are used in combination to build unique phone cases with certain colors.   We are proud to use Carbon Fiber and Aramid Fiber.

What is Carbon Fiber?

   Carbon fiber is composed of extremely stiff, strong, and light fibers which are made out  of carbon atoms formed in a long chain called tow. If you want a variery in building-blocks, carbon fiber is perfect because it comes in uni-directional yarns, braids, weaves, witch are turned into composite parts. The material is used for many applications like automotive, aerospace and military  equipement. Due to it’s unique qualities like high stiffness and strength, lightweight, corrosion resistance, chemical resistivity and low coefficient of thermal expansion.
   Most carbon fibers (about 90 percent) are made from the polyacrylonitrile (PAN) process.  A small amount (about 10 percent) are manufactured from rayon or the petroleum pitch  process.  Gases, liquids, and other materials used in the manufacturing process create  specific effects, qualities, and grades of carbon fiber.  
 


What is Aramid Fiber?

   Aramid fiber, belongs in a family of synthetic products characterized by strength  (some five times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis) and heat-resistance  (some more than 500 degrees Celcius).  
   It is appropriate for various applications such as composites, ballistics, aerospace,  automotive, protective clothing against heat/radiation/chemicals, asbestos substitute,  telecommunications (optical fiber cables) and many other. The word aramid comes from a blend of the words "aromatic" and "polyamide" and is a  general term for a manufactured fiber in which the fiber forming substance is a long chain  synthetic polyamide, in which at least 85% is of amide linkages (-CO-NH-) attached directly  to two aromatic rings.
 


How we turn the fibers into a phone case?
 
   &_39;&_39;The carbon and aramid fibers are woven into a fabric specially made only for our company.
    The resin impregnated fabric is then hand modeled on  a special mold then vacuum heat formed with  our secret DUNCA  technology.
    The exact cutting is  made with a sharp laser guided blade to create an opening for the ports, buttons and cameras.
    The surface aspect is given by the special molding materials we use into glossy or matte finish.&_39;&_39;
 
  • The carbon and aramid fibers are woven into a fabric that’s flexible.
  • The woven fabric is  impregnated with resin to prepare it for the next process.
  • After being cut into  pieces, the impregnated fabric is formed on  a negative mold with  our patented DUNCA  vacuum forming  technique.
  • The exact cutting is  made with a sharp laser guided blade to create an opening for the ports, buttons and cameras.
  • The glossiness is given by the mold and the  final polish is made manually.
